We offer several ways to get in touch with and provide materials to us. No communication system is completely secure, but these tools can help protect your anonymity.

We use ProtonMail, which calls itself “an easy to use secure email service with built-in end-to-end encryption and state of the art security features.” It was founded in 2014 by scientists, engineers and developers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, in Geneva.

Messages are stored on ProtonMail servers in encrypted format and transmitted in encrypted format between the servers and user devices; messages between ProtonMail users are also transmitted in encrypted form within their secure server network. Because data is encrypted at all steps, ProtonMail says the risk of message interception is largely eliminated.

ProtonMail says all user data is protected by the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act (DPA) and the Swiss Federal Data Protection Ordinance (DPO) which offers some of the strongest privacy protection in the world for both individuals and corporations. It is outside of U.S. and EU jurisdiction, ProtonMail says, so only a court order from the Cantonal Court of Geneva or the Swiss Federal Supreme Court can compel it to release the extremely limited user information it has.
